Easy Remedies to Help Your Teething Child

Posted on 26 September 2016

A teething child is a problematic child. A child is unable to deal with what is going on with his body so his only reaction is to pain and discomfort is to wail, scream and shout. He is unable to deal and is not equipped to cope, so it is your role to help ease the pain. As parents, you are put in charge of your child and you can do a few things to help him.

Here is a list of good remedies you can try to help alleviate the pain your teething child is experiencing:

    Distraction:

As parents, mastering the art of distraction will become a very helpful for a lot of things. For your teething child who is experiencing a lot of discomfort and pain, you can try to take their mind of it by distracting them with a toy. You can introduce new toys that will capture his interest or engage him in a lot of activities that will make him forget what is going on under his gums.

    Hard foods:

Connected to your efforts to distract your child, is to give him food that will engage him and at the same time, massage the aching soft tissues. You can give him crackers, bages, carrots and fruits. Chewing on these food will help with pain alleviation, but some caution is given because hard foods are choke hazards, so keep an eye on them while they eat to avoid accidents.

    Teethers or pacifiers:

Still connected to the distraction method, it may introduce your child to teethers at this point. As the name implies, teethers are meant for the biting urge of teething children. It may be offered to the child to help it soothe pain and discomfort.

    Amber teething necklaces:

You may also let your child wear an amber teething necklace because this simple accessory is able to suppress pain symptom and so give relief to your child.

    Cold compress:

The cold will help soothe and numb much of the pain sensation. If your child’s gums is tender and swollen, you can apply a wet frozen washcloth on it. Some would consider freezing a teething toy but be careful when using one as it could be quite harsh to the soft tissues.

    Rubbing or massaging:

Another way to ease the pain is to simple rub or massage the area with your clean finger. You may consider wrapping your finger with a cloth but you can do this bare.

    Oral cream or teething gel:

Oral creams for sores may be used for this purpose too. These creams have anesthetic properties, so they can numb the area and give temporary relief. Of course the effect wear out, so you have to be careful with the dosing, so as not to go over what is safely recommended for your child.

    Pain medication:

If all else fails, you can always ask his pediatrician about taking pain medications for pain relief. There are medications such as ibuprofen and acetaminophen that may be prescribed for your child.

Here are some other remedies that you may encounter, but you should be smart to stay away from it despite the benefits you read. Note that there are other safer remedies that you can try before you resort to these:

      1. Brandy. They say that the composition of the brandy can be good for swollen gums. Note, however, that even a small amount of alcohol can be poisonous to a child, so do not be quick to trying this out.
      2. Cutting the gums. In the past, some cultures resolved teething dilemmas by cutting the gums to expose the emerging tooth. Some parents may feel it its as simple as that but this is completely unnecessary. The actual emergence takes about 1-2 weeks, and letting the child go through a minor surgery, is unnecessary.

If your baby is cranky he will be hard to deal with. He is going to be a force to reckon with, unless you have these helpful remedies. As simple as of these may seem, they will be your saving grace, so allows to be your weapons—in the war against teething woes, these will prove beneficial.
